Prohibited & Restricted Items
Effective: 2026-05-26
Artisans Paradise is a marketplace for handmade and crafted goods. To keep the community safe and our makers' work in good company, some items may not be listed at all, and others may be listed only if they meet the laws that apply to them. Sellers are responsible for ensuring their items comply with this policy and with all applicable laws in every place they sell and ship. This list is not exhaustive; we may restrict additional items at our discretion.
1. Items prohibited outright
- Weapons and accessories (firearms, ammunition, magazines, gun parts, knives or blades marketed as weapons, tasers, brass knuckles, and similar).
- Explosives, fireworks, and any item requiring a HAZMAT shipping class.
- Drugs, controlled substances, drug paraphernalia, and substances intended to be ingested or inhaled for a psychoactive effect.
- Prescription drugs, prescription devices, and medical devices requiring authorization we cannot verify.
- Alcohol and tobacco or nicotine products (including vapes), or items that contain them as a component.
- Products that make unproven or unlawful health, medical, or curative claims.
- Mass-produced, resold, or drop-shipped items misrepresented as handmade.
- Counterfeit, replica, or intellectual-property-infringing goods (see our DMCA / IP process).
- Items made from endangered or protected species (elephant ivory, rhinoceros horn, sea-turtle shell, and similar), and other internationally restricted wildlife products.
- Human remains or bodily fluids; live animals; and animal products requiring permits we cannot verify.
- Recalled or banned products, and items subject to a safety recall.
- Pornographic or sexually explicit material and sexual services.
- Items that promote or glorify hatred, violence, terrorism, or discrimination against protected groups.
- Stolen property, or items with a high probability of being stolen.
- Government-issued identification, official documents, and government or law-enforcement uniforms or insignia.
- Currency, financial instruments, and gift cards or accounts offered for resale.
- Regulated seeds, plants, pesticides, or agricultural items that cannot lawfully be shipped.
- Anything unlawful under any applicable federal, state, national, or local law, or that requires a license we cannot verify.
2. Allowed only with compliance (regulated categories)
The following categories are core to handmade, so they are allowed — but only if you comply with the laws that govern them, describe and label your items accurately, and use safe packaging. We may ask for proof of compliance and may remove listings or accounts that do not meet these standards.
- Cosmetics, soap, and bath & beauty — comply with applicable cosmetic-safety and labeling laws (for U.S. sales, FDA rules: accurate ingredient lists, no drug or unproven health claims, no prohibited ingredients).
- Candles and home fragrance — include appropriate fire-safety and use warnings and meet applicable labeling standards.
- Food, edibles, and other consumables — comply with food-safety, cottage-food, and allergen-labeling laws; package appropriately; obtain any license or registration your jurisdiction requires. Some regions do not permit shipping certain foods.
- Children's products and toys — comply with children's-product-safety laws (for U.S. sales, CPSIA: lead and phthalate limits, tracking labels, and required small-parts / choking warnings). No recalled designs.
- Electrical, battery-powered, and heated items — meet applicable electrical-safety standards and ship batteries safely and lawfully.
- Jewelry and items containing precious metals or gemstones — describe metal content and stones accurately and comply with metal-content and labeling laws.
- CBD, hemp, and other regulated botanicals — permitted only where legal for you to sell and ship, and only in full compliance with all applicable laws; we may prohibit these entirely by region.
- Vintage items — must be at least 20 years old and accurately represented as vintage.
- Functional blades and tools (kitchen knives, craft tools) — allowed if not marketed or intended as weapons.
- International shipments — you are responsible for export, import, and customs compliance for the destinations you serve.
3. Authenticity standard
Every listed item must be:
- Designed by the seller (or the seller's clearly identified studio);
- Meaningfully handcrafted by the seller or that studio; and
- Accurately described — materials, dimensions, condition, and the processing / ship time for that item.
Resold goods, drop-shipped goods, mass-produced items, and AI-generated work without substantial human craftsmanship are not eligible. Studios with multiple makers must identify them in the storefront bio.
4. Reporting violations
If you see a listing that violates this policy, please flag it via the report button on the item page. Reports go to our review queue and are typically reviewed within a few business days.
5. Enforcement
We may remove listings, issue warnings, restrict features, hold payouts, and suspend or terminate accounts for violations of this policy, at our discretion and as described in our Terms of Service and Seller Agreement. Repeat or serious violations result in removal and possible permanent termination.
6. Changes
We update this policy as new categories and requirements emerge. Material changes are communicated to active sellers.
